Hippotherapy vs. Therapeutic Riding

Hippotherapy The AHA (American Hippotherapy Association, Inc. promotes the use of the movement of the horse as a treatment strategy in physical, occupational, an speech-language therapy sessions for people living with disabilities. Hippotherapy has shown to improve muscle tone, balance, posture, coordination, motor development as well as emotional well-being. visit www.americanhippotherapyassociation.org

Therapeutic Riding involves teaching the rider the necessary skills and techniques required to ride a horse as independently as possible. The emphasis is not only on the physical benefits of riding, but also on the development of the relationship between the rider and the horse. The self-discipline required to understand and control the horse instills a sense of responsibility and enhances task concentration in the rider.  visit www.NARHA.org for more information

Equine Growth and Learning involves using the horse as a tool in an off-horse intervention. The program involves community outreach that seeks to create an environment that foster’s hope, character development and positive change that is facilitated to deliberately address specific areas and provide opportunities for resolution and growth. visit www.EAGALA.org for more information
