"The iPad has revolutionized and unlocked the communication barrier for children on the Autism Spectrum. While the children ride, they cultivate self-expression skills using special iPad apps. Inspired by the horse, riders are determined to put words, symbols, and pictures together to create sentences."
Cat Markosky, Founder & CEO of STAT, Inc.
Two of my five children are disabled. Mason (now age 14) experienced a traumatic birth and is multiply disabled (he has cerebral palsy and a rare genetic condition called Costello Syndrome). My 11 year old son Maxwell is autistic.  I was introduced to Hippotherapy when Mason was 3 years old. After only 12 weeks, the riding helped Mason rapidly build remarkable core strength and balance where he was able to sit unsupported for the first time in his life! Today, Mason walks. Maxwell, who was non-verbal until the age of 6, spoke his first words “GO FAST!” while riding.

My name is Cat Markosky; in 2007, I Founded STAT®, a 501(c)3 public charity that offers unique and innovative programs to enhance a person's abilities, invite learning, and improve quality of life through recreational, animal-assisted, and educational-based activities. Since 2007, STAT® has provided more than 10,000 therapeutic riding sessions to more than 600 individuals across a 12-county region. ...And after 8 years of providing successful programs at six privately leased equine facilities, we believe it is now time to build our own therapy center – right here in Ligonier [click here]
